Camp de Benneville Pines survived a recent fire but suffered damage and needs your help. Through a lot of hard work, camp was closed only four weeks and is happy to announce that they are back on schedule, but full recovery will require your generous donation.

The camp is in need of both financial support and manual support. They need help securing the buildings and setting up erosion control before the rainy season sets in. They also greatly need financial support to help with repairs, loss of income, and prevention of further damage. Noted interfaith oncology chaplain Michael Eselun will be speaking at the 10am service at UUFSD on Sunday, August 2nd, 2015. Don't miss this inspiring speaker! 

Michael is also the co-founder and chair of a non-profit, volunteer anti-homophobia speakers bureau called GLIDE, Gays and Lesbians Initiating Dialogue for Equality. Over the last 20-plus years, Michael and his fellow speakers have spoken to an audience of well over 150,000 students, teachers, and other various groups and agencies in the LA area about homophobia. GLIDE is the go-to resource for LA Unified Schools as well as for the Simon Wiesenthal Center/Museum of Tolerance. As an integral part of the museum's Tools for Tolerance program, Michael has addressed countless groups of students, educators, administrators, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, and corporate management groups about the impact of homophobia on our culture. He sees both pursuits as closely related in that both fields have to do with creating safe spaces for people to fully tell their truths and be received with respect.

Carrie has been described as "a soaring songstress" by Billboard Magazine, a "prairie mystic" by the Boston Globe, and Rolling Stone wrote that she "asks all the right questions." In the 2009 and 2011, Newcomer toured India as a cultural ambassador for the American Embassy. In 2011, she released her interfaith collaborative benefit album "Everything is Everywhere" with world master of the Indian Sarod, Amjad Ali Khan. A recent PBS interview provides a glimpse of her talent and an insight into why she has been described as "a prominent voice for progressive spirituality, social justice, and interfaith dialogue.
