![]() "Thanks to 'Taste of UU' attendees who signed the petition calling for a steep increase of Syrian refugee admissions to the U.S. The petition with 135 signatures (almost 20% of which were by our young people) has been sent to the UUA and the UU Service Committee with a cover letter by Rev. Meghan Conrad Cefalu along with $100 in donations for the Syrian Relief Fund. To follow up and get or stay involved, please visit www.winwithoutwar.org and sign the petition supporting the bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate that asks for $1 billion to fund Syrian relief and resettlement! Download the full minutes. ![]() UUs in San Diego have been working on Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) for a long time already. In December 2014, there was a “Vigil to Honor Sandy Hook Victims” at UUFSD. The event was organized by UUFSD member Steve Bartram, who explained his motivation in an article that ran in The Coast Times thecoastnews.com/blog/2014/12/vigil-to-honor-sandy-hook-victims/. On May 10, 2015, Reverend David Miller devoted his Mother’s Day sermon to gun violence prevention https://vimeo.com/127534372 . And the ASK (Asking Saves Kids) Campaign was celebrated at UUFSD on June 21, 2015, which is National ASK Day. On that Sunday, members filled and displayed signs naming the loved one they pledged to protect by asking “Is there an unlocked gun in your house?” before sending a child over to play. Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) activities are being coordinated by Steve Bartram and he is looking for more UUs interested in working with him on this issue. Please email him at bartram@sdsc.edu for more information. |
