September 22, 2015 was truly a milestone in our task force's work for immigration reform and social justice. UUFSD volunteers provided the leadership in organizing a community forum on “Know Your Rights.” and by all measures, the forum was a huge success. Over 50 participants, and many children, attended. This was a great tribute to our outreach efforts to churches, restaurants, community organizations, markets, etc.
Sara Ohara, a member of UUFSD, organizes UU volunteers once monthly to do a 2-hr shift at the San Diego Food Bank and YOU are invited! Several UUs work this shift and really enjoy it. If you can't make it on 10/1/15, save the date for an upcoming night.
Join us at the San Diego Food Bank in the Miramar area; just 20 minutes from UUFSD! It’s always from 6:00 – 8:00 PM – anyone over 7 years old can help! Mostly we just put food in boxes on an assembly line or bag fresh produce – really easy, no lifting, no bending, great camaraderie.
This is a wonderful way of helping locally those in need and strengthening our UUFSD community as well. The San Diego Food Bank distributes over 20 million pounds of food annually to individuals, families and a network of nonprofit organizations that work to alleviate hunger throughout San Diego county. They need our help!

More than 250 UUs from across the county attended our Taste of UU—Food & Music Festival at UUFSD in Solana Beach on September 12, 2015. We enjoyed great food and live music from UU musicians from around San Diego. The concert was organized by Jill Reis, UUFSD Music Director, and Lisa Shaffer from UUFSD facilitated audience participation between musical acts. The UUFSD Band were first up on the concert schedule. Other musical groups featured include Project Harmony (Chalice), Eklectic GrUUve (Palomar), Singchronicity (Friends of UUFSD), Apostles of Vibe (Palomar), and Kensington(Friends of Chalice’s Grunnion Run).
