The San Diego Rapid Response Network has moved into the new shelter Asylum Seeker's Shelter on 6th Ave in downtown in the old county courthouse. They will be the facility until December 31, 2019 and are in need of clothing and a other items. We are collecting donations in bins at both the First UU Church of San Diego Hillcrest and South Bay campuses.
To donate money visit: GoFundMe.com/MigrantReliefSD.
To donate for Travel Expenses visit: sharejourneysd.org/families.
Donate Needed Items: Shop our Amazon wish list to contribute specific items that the shelter needs.
To Volunteer: Contact our Network Coordinator, Sandra Alvarado, at salvarado@rapidresponsesd.org.
DONATION ITEMS NEEDED: Shirts and sweaters (sizes small and medium), pants (sizes 30 and below or boys XL (many of our guests are petite and can fit into boy's sizes), backpacks (used ok), protein bars for travel bags (not granola bars), international calling cards (these can be bought at Rite Aid, CVS, or Walgreens). We are going through these faster than anticipated, so we really appreciate the donations! You can also shop on our AMAZON WISH LIST! There will be donation bins by the Social Justice table at both Hillcrest and South Bay. The Fire Marshall is strict about how much we can keep on-site at once. If possible, please sort and label donations by gender in advance.

Microaggression of the Week: Where are you from? No, really, where?
Message: You’re not American. You’re a foreigner.
* Microaggressions: Brief verbal and/or behavioral actions whether intentional or unintentional that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative slights and insults that people of color (POC) endure every day—but usually aren’t noticed by white people who commit them.

In order to live our faith into action in a humane and faithful response to help people in need on both sides of our border we are sharing several different ways you can plug in with our community partners to help make a difference in the lives of people. There are multiple opportunities to fit a wide range of involvement both here in San Diego and also with two organizations in Tijuana. Whether you can volunteer time or donate, your help can make a big difference. Thank you for living out our mission and helping to make San Diego a more just, fair and equitable region.

As you may already know, Councilmember Georgette Gómez has introduced a resolution in opposition to Executive Order 13767, to build a wall along the United States border with Mexico and U.S. House of Representatives Bill H.R. 1813 Titled Border Wall Funding Act of 2017. Councilmember Gómez believes that San Diego is a city that benefits economically and culturally from the binational bond we have with Mexico and the contributions of immigrants.  It is incumbent on us to protect such bonds by resisting moves to further divide us. We are asking for your public support on this resolution. Please join us at the San Diego City Councilwww.uusandiego.org/blog/get-your-standing-on-the-side-of-love-t-shirt meeting where the resolution will be discussed for full council consideration. This is a great opportunity to wear your Standing on the Side of Love t-shirts!
