Some DACA holders are eligible to extend their protected status for another two years, but they MUST complete their renewal application before October 5. The US Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) charges a $495 application fee for each renewal application—a huge burden for low-income families, especially on such short notice. So, for the next three weeks, First UU is joining with our longtime partner Alliance San Diego to help DACA families cover this cost and meet the October deadline.
You can contribute to this effort in one of two ways:
- Donate through First Church: Make your payment to First UU San Diego, and put “DACA Fund” in the memo line of your check or in the “Comment” field of your online payment. 100% of the money donated to the DACA fund at First UU will be passed through to Alliance San Diego. Donations must be received no later than October 1; or
- Donate directly to Alliance San Diego’s DACA Renewal Fund: Contributions can be made through the Alliance San Diego website https://alliancesd.nationbuilder.com/daca_renewal_fund. Alliance staff will write checks directly to USCIS on behalf of renewal applicants needing financial assistance whose applications have been reviewed by Alliance’s legal experts.
